Concept:
A new type of event
structure is sought, based on a reinterpretation of the idea of event.
Events are seen
as hard, soft, or undefined.
Hard
Event:
A hard event has
a specific location and duration; its visitors curve is one of steep peaks
and dales.
Soft
Event:
A soft event shows
a less cyclical structure; its location is visited by a more or less continuos
flow.
Undefined
Event:
The undefined event
is proportionally the largest of all and functionally breaks down
into waiting,
circulation, distribution
and logistics.
Combination:
The project takes
this last type of event as its main structure and, within this soft structure,
establishes strata incorporating
the hard events.
Event
Theme:
The theme given by the Expo organizers for
the Arteplage Yverdon is ' Me and the Universe';
questions of philosophical, sensual, organic and ontological nature are
posed. The

Event
Structure: hard unit and soft unit
A multidisciplinary design team executed
the competition entry for swiss National exposition
of the summer of 2001. the project calls for a proposal for an 'Art
Beach', and integral,
waterside construction incorporating all Expo facilities and providing
a philosophical
landscape in which the visitor will encounter various, thematic works of
art, performances
and events.
Site:
the program area
of the project consists of the Expoparc with existing sports facilities
and the
forum with its
temporary construction.
The
Expoparc:
the parc is conceived as an enlarged arena,
with a continuos platform as a woven superstructure, which is only interrupted
by the bubbles of specific events.
Circulation:
Variable circulation
based on visitor duration are possible.
Covered
Forum:
the covered forum proposes a double loop,
spaced by event bubbles. Its construction principle is that of
the heleoid as a knot between three spheres.
